AKOpanel
AKOpanel develops and manufactures PET-based acoustic interior products. Operating from Dalfsen, the company creates solutions that combine acoustics, design, and responsible material use. As a partner of the Circular Plastics Foundation, AKOpanel is taking further steps to keep valuable PET material streams within the supply chain for as long as possible.
A key element of this is RePETpanel: an acoustic panel that combines recycled PET bottles with recovered PET material from production and the market.

From residual stream to new raw material
With RePETpanel, AKOpanel gives PET material a second and even a third life. In doing so, various recycled material streams are repurposed as raw materials.
A significant portion of this consists of Post-Industrial Recycled (PIR) material. This includes offcuts generated during the processing of PETpanel within AKOpanel’s own production facilities and at partner processing sites. Additionally, Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) material can be used, sourced from PET products recovered from projects and customers after use.
These PIR and PCR streams are collected, processed into reusable PET raw material, and subsequently used again in the production of RePETpanel.
The circular core makes up approximately 30% of the total panel and consists entirely of recovered PET material. The remaining 70% consists of two outer layers, with 50% of their fibers derived from recycled PET bottles. As a result, RePETpanel is composed of approximately 65% recycled material in total.
By repurposing both PIR and PCR materials, AKOpanel reduces the demand for virgin raw materials and keeps valuable PET material within the supply chain for longer.
Working together towards a closed loop
The partnership with the Circular Plastics Foundation aligns with AKOpanel’s ambition to further close the material loop. By collaborating with customers, processors, and other supply chain partners, AKOpanel aims to recover increasing amounts of PIR and PCR material and reprocess them into high-quality acoustic products.
RePETpanel demonstrates how production waste, residual material from projects, and used PET products can regain value. In this way, a linear material flow gradually evolves into a circular supply chain where PET is reused as a raw material for new applications.
